About The Event

Learn The Buzz about beekeeping in CPS from an art teacher that has kept bees on his school's rooftop for over 5 years and sustained them through the sale of honey and other bee created products. Resources and life experiences will be shared.

2nd Session - You've got your equipment, you have ordered your bees, now what? Learn how to set up your hive, and install your bee package into the hive, how to assist your bees in developing a thriving healthy hive.

3rd Session - What's the buzz? So how is your hive? General hive maintenance. When to expand a hive, and common issues that may occur in a hive and how to prevent them. When and how to extract honey.

4th Tentative Date - TBD - Based upon what people have ?'s about. Honey extraction and jarring, organic treatments, over wintering, organizations and workshops on breeding queens, etc. Lesson plans about bees and bee keeping, grants for bee keeping etc.

Art Helbig is a National Board Certified Art Teacher - (EMC-Art 07') who teaches at Chicago Public Schools, Carl Von Linne Elementary School and has kept bees there for 5 years.
