Bookbinding with Teddie

Time & Location

Apr 04, 2026, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange, 2124 W 82nd Pl, Chicago, IL 60620, USA

About The Event

In this workshop, participants will learn techniques to turn scrap paper and old hard-cover books into a brand-new reuse art journal! These reuse art journals can be done dozens of different ways and this workshop will highlight two binding methods. Participants can choose to simple saddle-stich binding or an adjusted coptic binding method (recommended for students with previous experience or who want to challenge themselves). At the end of the workshop, participants will have created an art journal that is somewhere between 24 and 72 pages in length and will have learned about bookbinding using recycled materials.

Teddie Bernard is a visual artist with experience engaging a wide array of community members in the arts. From Pre- K to the recently retired, Teddie teaches art with an ethos of meeting students where they are at, so they can create art they are proud of. You can learn more about Teddie…
