Folk Art, Carved Marble Elephants

These marble inlay elephant figurines are hand-carved from white marble and decorated with floral designs using semi-precious stones. 
They are an example of traditional Indian inlay art, often called "Pietra Dura". 
The trunk-up posture is often considered a symbol of good luck, strength, and wisdom. 
The semi-precious stones used in the inlay work can include lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, and carnelian
Mother is 3" high x 3.5" long x 1.5" wide.   Baby is 2" high x 2.5" long x 1.25" wide.
