Hiring! CCRx Warehouse Operations Manager + Administrative Intern

We are looking for a Creative REuse Center Operations Manager who can help lead CCRx as we provide materials and inspiration to Chicago teachers, nonprofits, artists and community groups. Operations Manager: The Opportunity


The Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) seeks a flexible, detail-oriented person who embraces CCRx’s vision and mission and who can be a part of the team taking our organization to the next level. Reporting to the Executive Director, the CCRx Operations Manager will be highly organized, collaborative, and enthusiastic about decreasing the amount of waste going to landfills. The Operations Manager will serve as the first face at the Auburn Gresham facility, acting as CCRx’s liaison and most important/visible contact to neighborhood stakeholders, material donors, program partners, and other constituents. The Operations Manager will be primarily responsible for organizing and managing CCRx’s physical space and inventory and coordinating volunteers. Responsibilities, in order of priority, include:


Volunteer Management

Work with the Executive Director to develop and fill key volunteer positions to assist with inventory and database management needs

  • Engage, schedule, train and manage volunteers working at the Auburn Gresham site

  • Coordinate volunteer and group activities at the center

  • Serve as an informational resource to current and prospective volunteers

  • Solicit feedback on the volunteer experience

Physical Site and Inventory Management

Manage the day to day activities of the CCRx Creative Reuse and Distribution Center facility

  • Maintain a safe, clean, pleasant, and secure environment

  • Oversee inventory of donated items -- sorting and display of donated reuse materials

  • Assess, perform, and/or oversee repairs of donated items as needed

  • Maintain computerized inventory of donated reuse material

  • Research values of comparable items

  • Populate and maintain online sales platform(s)

  • Maintain and restock tools and supplies

Other

  • Schedule and coordinate off site pack-ups and pick-ups of donated reuse materials

  • Act as the primary site liaison to Envision Unlimited, our facility and program partner, and the community at large

  • Work collaboratively to create and sustain an atmosphere that promotes teamwork and collaboration, effective individual performance, and smooth working relationships

  • Actively participate in and support fundraising efforts

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record

  • Physical mobility, including lifting, lowering sliding donated materials up to 70 pounds as well as using a dolly or pallet jack.

  • Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, social media engagement and willingness to learn to learn inventory and website management software

  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with inventory management

  • Familiarity with teaching resources, photography, crafts, and tools.

Preference will be given to individuals who have

  • A commitment to environmentally responsible management practices

  • Experience in scheduling, managing, supporting and retaining volunteers

  • Proficiency in standard computerized word processing, spreadsheet and inventory management

  • Demonstrated engagement with social media and e-commerce

  • Familiarity with the Auburn Gresham and its surrounding communities

Salary and benefits

This is a part-time position that pays $15 per hour to start. The Operations Manager is a visible presence during CCRx operating hours; thus, some weekend and evening availability is required. The Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) is changing how Chicago thinks about surplus. Our community of educators, artists, businesses, volunteers, and program partners foster creativity and environmental stewardship through creative reuse. We source supplies and equipment for teachers, nonprofits and community groups and teach creative reuse at workshops and events across the city. Our administrative office is located at the Chicago Teachers Union on Chicago’s West Side while the Center’s warehouse and distribution center is in Auburn Gresham, co-located with Envision Unlimited at 2124 W. 82nd Place. Envision Unlimited serves individuals with disabilities in a structured workshop environment. As an emerging nonprofit organization, CCRx has a small core staff/team and many volunteers. Administrative Intern:

The Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCrx) is a non-profit organization dedicated to redistributing surplus to Chicago teachers and nonprofits. We solicit donations of clean, safe and working materials, equipment and supplies from business and individuals. We have educational programs to inspire reuse and environmental stewardship.  We serve Chicago and work throughout the region. We are based at the Envision Unlimited Frick Center, 2124 W. 82nd Place in Chicago.


About the Position

We seek a graduate or advanced undergraduate for a semester or year-long internship to support our Executive Director and other team members with program administration.  This includes monitoring correspondence (email and social media), assisting with marketing and outreach (press, web updates), data entry and database maintenance, event coordination, and services related to donation intake, school and office pack-ups, and volunteer events.   Intern will collaborate with CCRx staff and volunteers as needed and have the opportunity to conduct individual projects based on personal skills and interests. Intern will be responsible for contributing to a Process Manual that will be utilized for future staff and volunteers. 


We seek someone enthusiastic, dedicated, professional, and interested in being a part of our creative community. Applicants should be responsible, self-directed, able to work independently, comfortable trouble-shooting and passionate about reuse and environmental stewardship. Strong computer skills a must (We use GSuite, MailChimp, Wix, Signup, Quickbooks, Adobe + Gimp, Microsoft Office, Social Media). You'll need to multitask and communicate over various platforms (social media, phone, in person, email, etc.). Experience coordinating people and/or events preferred. Because we work with adults with developmental disabilities at our warehouse, background checks may be needed.  

Hours: This internship is for 15-21 hours / week, with 8-10 hours per week at our main warehouse, 2124 W. 82nd Place.  Additional hours may be scheduled at other off-site locations for meetings, visiting potential donation gathering locations, or independent work.   


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor correspondence (Gmail, Facebook, Surveys, Mail, Website, Enews)

  • Schedule meetings and events

  • Maintain calendar for meetings, deadlines, reports.

  • Update and coordinate various lists and databases and integrate with Google Forms, Mailchimp, Quickbooks and other

  • Write occasional blog or social media posts

  • Support Development Team planning and executing community events and drives

  • Support the Communications Team and volunteer graphic designers, copywriters, and web designers on campaigns, events and/or fundraisers.

  • Assist with developing CRM / tracking and cultivation of supporters to ensure continued funding and rapid, personalized feedback
