The Illinois Green Alliance's Illinois Green Schools Project (IGSP) is an annual sustainability action and recognition program for K-12 schools in Illinois. IGSP helps educators engage students and school stakeholders in hands-on projects that improve health, efficiency, and environmental impact. Plus they offer up to $1000 mini-grants! Their Call for Proposals due Oct 17.
Each participating school is led by a Green Team Leader (staff or faculty) who forms a Green Team of school stakeholders like students, administration, facilities managers, and educators. With direct, 1-on-1 guidance from an IGSP Sustainability Mentor, teams move through three stages—Assess & Design, Implementation, and Storytelling & Recognition—to complete a sustainability project that addresses their school’s goals and needs.
Schools receive resources, mentorship, and the chance to apply for up to $1,000 in mini-grant funding, and those that submit a project report at the end of the year are recognized for their work and may earn awards and opportunities to share their achievements with a statewide network of educators and sustainability professionals. Learn more here.
Get started on your sustainability project right away by signing up anytime before the October 17 deadline.
The Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) encourages you to sign up for whatever sustainability action is the best fit for you and your school. One suggestion is to propose collaborating with CCRx on a School's Out Green Out! End of School Year Surplus Supply Donation Drive.
